Objective 1: To know the historical and religious significance of the place.
Imli Tala is a sacred spot in Vrindavan, deeply cherished by devotees for its connection to both Lord Krishna and Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. According to the Vaiṣṇava tradition, during the rāsa-līlā, when Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī momentarily left the dance, Krishna, overwhelmed by feelings of separation, sat beneath a tamarind tree near the Yamunā River, longing for Her presence. Immersed in meditation on Rādhā’s love, Krishna’s body is said to have taken on Her golden complexion, symbolizing the depth and unity of Their divine prema.
Centuries later, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, the Golden Avatāra who appeared in the mood of Rādhā, visited this very spot. Absorbed in the same mood of separation, He sat beneath the tree and relished the sweetness of vipralambha-bhāva, further sanctifying the place with His divine presence. Today, the Imli Tala Temple, nestled on the banks of the Yamunā near Śṛṅgāra Vaṭa and Keśī Ghāṭa, commemorates these transcendental pastimes. Though the original tamarind tree is no longer present, a new tree has been planted, and a deity of Caitanya Mahāprabhu is lovingly installed beneath it, allowing devotees to offer prayers and meditate on His mood of longing and devotion.
Visiting Imli Tala is especially auspicious during the Kārtika month or on Gaura Pūrṇimā, when special satsaṅgs and kīrtans fill the atmosphere with spiritual joy. The temple is generally open from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and the cooler months from October to March are ideal for pilgrimage. For those seeking to deepen their connection with the mood of separation and divine love, Imli Tala offers a serene and spiritually potent experience in the heart of Vrindavan.
Objective 2: To understand the intense love in separation between Srimathi Radharani and Sri Krishna.

Imli Tala, in short, is the place which epitomizes the intense love in separation between Srimathi Radharani and Sri Krishna. In simple English language, Imli Tala means Tamarind tree. Imli Tala is the place, where Shrimati Radharani left the Sharad Purnima rasa dance, leaving Sri Krishna searching for Her in intense feelings of separation. Previously Imli Tala used to be near a ghat on the banks of the Yamuna but over the years Yamuna has changed its course and is now flowing at a distance from Imli Tala.
Objective 3: To know about Prabhupada visit to Imli thala.
Imli Tala holds a special place in the hearts of Gaudiya Vaiṣṇavas, not only for its deep connection to Krishna and Caitanya Mahāprabhu, but also because Śrīla Prabhupāda himself would often visit this sacred site. Following in the footsteps of his spiritual master, Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura, who along with his disciples purchased the land and established a beautiful Gaudiya Maṭha there, Prabhupāda would come to honor the mood of separation and devotion that permeates the atmosphere of Imli Tala.
Surrounded by a distinct yellow wall, the temple complex allows darśana of the Imli Tala tree through its gate—a tree revered as a Kalpavṛkṣa, where Krishna once sat in longing for Rādhārāṇī, and where Caitanya Mahāprabhu later absorbed Himself in deep remembrance of the Divine Couple. Beside this sacred tree lies the samādhi of a revered disciple of Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura, marking the site as a place of spiritual legacy and deep surrender.
Among those who cherished Imli Tala was Śrīla Krishnadasa Bābājī Mahārāja, a dear and affectionate associate of Śrīla Prabhupāda. Known for his purity and joyful chanting, Bābājī Mahārāja would come to Imli Tala on every Ekādaśī, just before sunset, and sit beneath the tree chanting japa of the holy name until after sunrise. His devotion and simplicity continue to inspire devotees who visit this sacred spot, reminding us that Vrindavan’s true wealth lies in the hearts of those who chant with love and humility.
Objective 4: To know about the desire tree .
Sri Krishna, in this mood of separation sat down under this Kalpavriksha Tamarind tree at Imli Tala and became so completely absorbed in the thoughts of Shrimati Radharani and chanting Her holy names, that His body assumed the color of Shrimati Radharani. Just at that time, Shrimati Radharani appeared, relieving His separation and subsequently, He again assumed His original form of Shyamasundara. At this very place, Krishna then disclosed to Shri Radhika, “In My intense ecstasies of separation, I assumed Your form, Your complexion and Your ecstatic love. In the age of Kali, I will again appear like this, I will appear with Your complexion and with Your mood of ecstatic love and I will spread that love throughout the world, to all living beings, through the sankirtan movement – the loud congregational chanting of the holy names: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare / Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare.”
Objective 5: To understand about Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s visit to Imli Tala.
Shri Krishna appeared in the age of Kali, as Shri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, just 500 years ago, with the complexion and the mood of ecstatic love of Shrimati Radharani. When Lord Chaitanya visited Vrindavan, He would come to Imli Tala everyday and for hours and hours with his japa-mala, He would deeply absorb Himself in chanting the holy names, sitting under this Imli tree. In the mood of Shrimati Radharani He would become so deeply immersed in the ocean of separation from Shyamasundara that Lord Chaitanya’s golden form would be transformed into the complexion of a dark, newly formed monsoon rain-cloud. This is Imli Tala.
Tamarind Tree – Kalpavriksha Tree
Here one should pray at the lotus feet of Lord Chaitanya and Shri Shri Radha Gopinath to be able to become sincerely attached to chanting Their holy names in pure love. This is the most potent place where Krishna Himself chanted Shrimati Radharani’s holy names and Mahaprabhu chanted Krishna’s holy names in the mood of intense longing and separation and many of our previous acharyas have performed their bhajan here, so here we should pray for taste in chanting and pure devotional service unto Krishna.
