Indra, ashamed after sending torrential rains to punish the residents of Vrindavan, came to seek Sri Krishna’s forgiveness. Airavata, the divine white elephant of Indra, brought sacred Ganga water to bathe Sri Krishna as an act of submission after the Govardhan Lila. The celestial bath was performed using Ganga water brought by Airavata and Surabhi cow’s milk. The water collected at the bathing spot formed Airavata Kunda.
