Mānasi Ganga is considered to be more holy than the Ganges River, enjoying popularity equal to that of River Ganga. Objective 2: To learn about the rituals performed at Mānasi Ganga.

Every year, on the auspicious occasion of Diwali, devotees light earthen lamps and float them in the water of this popular lake as a ritual. It is a significant pilgrimage site, especially for those performing the Govardhan Parikrama.

Objective 3: To describe the will of Ganga and how it was fulfilled by Sri Krishna.

Ganga desired a place like Yamuna in Vrindavan. Krishna fulfilled her wish by manifesting Ganga out of His mind, thus giving her the name “Mānasi” (from the mind) Ganga.

Objective 4: To know the history behind the manifestation of Mānasi Ganga. To know the history behind the manifestation of Mānasi Ganga.

Once, Kamsa sent a demon to kill Sri Krishna. The demon took the form of a calf (Vatsasura) and hid among Krishna’s cattle. When Krishna discovered this, He killed the demon. Since a calf is considered holy, the gopis boycotted Him, accusing Him of killing a calf, and asked Him to bathe in the Ganga to atone. Not wanting to leave Braj, Krishna meditated, and Ganga manifested herself near the foot of Govardhan Hill as Mānasi Ganga. Krishna bathed there to satisfy His friends.

Objective 5: To understand the authenticity of Mānasi Ganga as the real Ganga.

The gopis doubted whether this was truly Ganga. Krishna called out, “Oh Mother Ganga!” and Mother Ganga appeared on her vehicle, the Makara (creature with the head of a crocodile and the body of a fish ). All the gopis, including Radharani, offered respects and bathed happily. From then on, Mānasi Ganga became a sacred pilgrimage place, fulfilling Ganga’s intense desire.

Objective 6: To know the temples around Mānasi Ganga.

Near Mānasi Ganga is the temple dedicated to Mānasi Devi, one of the four major goddesses of Braj—the others being Pātāleshwari Devi, Vrinda Devi, and Yogmaya Devi.

Objective 7: To highlight the local legend connected to Mānasi Ganga.

One day, Nanda Maharaj and the cowherd men heard the following glories of Ganga: Garuda once carried a snake over Ganga, and when the snake’s tail touched the water, it transformed into a four-handed resident of Vaikuntha. Hearing this, Nanda Maharaj wished to go to Ganga, but Sri Krishna reminded them that all holy places exist in Vrindavan and took them to Mānasi Ganga instead. Mother Ganga personally appeared on her crocodile, and the Vrajavasis offered obeisances and bathed there. This incident happened on Diwali, and to this day, lamps are offered to Mānasi Ganga on that day.
