Jahnava Mata’s Spiritual Identity:
Objective 1: To understand Jahnava Mata’s spiritual identity.

In Sri Krishna’s Vrindavan pastimes Jahnava Mata is Ananga Manjari, the younger sister of Srimati Radharani.

Gaura-ganoddesha-dipika (verse 66) by Kavi Karnapura reveals that Ananga Manjari, the younger sister of Srimati Radharani, appeared as Jahnava Devi, the dear consort of Nityananda Prabhu.

Jahnava Mata’s appearance day is celebrated on Vaisakha Sukla Navami (Ninth day of the waxing moon in the month of April–May).

Leadership Role in the Gaudiya Vaishnava Community
Objective 2: To learn about the leadership role of Jahnava Mata.

Jahnava Mata was the wife of Nityananda Prabhu and after His disappearance, assumed leadership of the Gaudiya Vaishnava community. She guided the devotees, coordinated preaching activities, and organised major festivals such as the Kheturi Mahotsava. Bhakti-Ratnakara (Fifth Wave) describes Jahnava Mata’s arrival in Vrindavan and her influence in uniting the Vaishnava community.

Historical Significance of Jahnava Mata Baithak
Objective 3: To know the historical and spiritual significance of Jahnava Mata Baithak.

This sacred site near Radha-Kunda marks the site where she performed intense bhajana during her stay in Govardhan. “Baithak” in Bengali means a sitting place or meeting, and here it signifies a sacred seat for devotional gatherings. Bhakti-ratnakara (Sixth Wave) narrates how Jahnava Mata visited Radha-kunda and other holy places in Vraja, performing kirtan and bhajan at her Baithak.

Sacred Vision and Ma Jahnava Ghat
Objective 4: To know about the sacred vision of Jahnava Mata.

Once, Jahnava Mata, came to Vrindavan. While having darshan of Radha-Gopinath, she felt that the deity of Srimati Radharani was a little too small, and thought that if Srimati Radharani were slightly taller, the Divine Couple would look even more beautiful. After attending the evening ceremony, Jahnava Mata returned to her residence.

That night, in a dream, under a Tamal tree near the Baithak, Jahnava Mata had a divine darshan of Sri Gopinath asking Jahnava Mata to arrange for a taller deity of Srimati Radharani. She received the same instruction from Srimati Radharani Herself. Following this divine request, she arranged to have a deity of Srimati Radharani made that was more suitably proportioned to the deity of Sri Gopinath.

Nearby is “Ma Jahnava Ghaat,” where she bathed in Radha Kunda.

Devotional Practices at Jahnava Baithak
Objective 5: To describe the devotional practices associated with Jahnava Baithak.

The Baithak is a place of hari-katha, especially about the lives of Gaudiya saints. Devotees also perform kirtan, bhajan, and sankirtana, the core practices established by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

Connection to Govardhan Hill
The site is close to the sacred hill lifted by Sri Krishna to protect the residents of Vraja. Pilgrims visit the Baithak while performing Govardhan Parikrama to gain mercy and purification.

Disappearance of Jahnava Mata
Objective 6: To know about the pastime associated with the disappearance of Jahnava Mata.

After Jahnava Mata had toured the forests of Vraja for the second time, she attended the evening arati of Gopinath [in Vrindavan] along with all the senior Vaishnavas of Vrindavan. While they were waiting for the darshana of Gopinath, suddenly Gopinath’s curtain opened and Gopinath Himself grabbed Jahnava Mata by the hand and took her into the deity room. Then again the curtain closed. In due course of time, when the assembled Vaishnavas opened the curtain, they saw only Radha-Gopinath standing on the altar and no trace of Jahnava Mata. Later, under the direction of Shrila Jiva Gosvami the deity of Ananga Manjari was also installed next to Gopinath. She departed this world by merging into the deity of Lord Gopinath.
